César Reyes Comes Back to NYC for LMEW

After last year’s successful debut at Carnegie Hall, Mexican pianist César Reyes joins LMEW with “Liszt and Latin America” recital in Greenwich House Music School. The recital is part of this week’s Latin Media & Entertainment Week (Oct. 3-9) in New York City.

Carlos Manzano Welcomes you to 2011 LMEW

Our own Carlos Manzano, executive director of the Latin Media and Entertainment Commission welcomes you officially to this year’s LMEW (Oct. 3-9) our second annual.

Last year the first LMEW had 22 events with over 90,000 participants and an economic impact to the City of $3 million.

And this year’s LMEW is even more exciting as we are adding new events, including film, theater, dance, concerts, comedy, photography, art, museum exhibits, business functions, and more.

Oct. 4 is ‘Tertulia Time’ at En Foco

Several artists in En Foco’s permanent collection get together during this year’s Latin Media & Entertainment Week to converse about the roles that Latinos and other artists of color play in the history of American photography.

Raising the Bar: A Tertulia with Artists from En Foco’s Permanent Collection takes place Oct. 4 at 6:00 PM at Calumet Photographic. Free and open to the public.

Merengue music icons joins Latin Media and Entertainment Week with an Oct. 8 event at Lehman Center honoring Dominican music icon Rubby Perez (right.)

Presented by The Dominican-American National Roundtable and La Mega 97.9 FM, the event honors Rubby Perez in his 30th anniversary as a music icon.

Rubby will be joined by his friends, composer Ramón Orlando and young Bachata sensation Yunel Cruz.

Free Screening of ‘La Toma’ Joins LMEW

As part of this year’s Latin Media & Entertainment WeekCinema Tropical presents La Toma, a documentary feature about the day in 1985 in which a guerrilla group stormed the country’s Palace of Justice, home to Colombia’s Supreme Court.

Admission is free and screening is followed by discussion with the film’s producers. Watch the trailer below, and join the film’s producers for a discussion Oct. 3 at the New York Times building.

Alejandra Delfín's 'Genetically Modified' raises consciousness about the alteration of food production.

Just in time to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, SUNY Empire State College will host ¡Viva America! an exhibit by current students and alumni, featuring great talent and artistic expression.

¡Viva America! -an official event of this year’s Latin Media Entertainment Week– will be on display from Oct. 1 through Dec. 20.

An opening reception will take place Oct. 6 at 5:30 p.m.

Rakel Terceño’s artistic collection joins LMEW

The Six Betweens Art Collective has joined this year’s Latin Media and Entertainment Week (LMEW,) featuring a multidisciplinary arts collection in a monthlong exhibit: Death-Rebirth-Freedom REVELRY.

Founded in New York City in 2008 by Rakel Terceño, the arts festival kicks off Oct. 1 and will run for a whole month.
